WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribe has existed since creation as the aboriginal people who are the owners and guardians of their lands and water; and
WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribe is an independent sovereign nation, having historically negotiated with several foreign nations, including the United States in the Medicine Creek Treaty; and
WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribal Council is the governing body of the Puyallup Tribe in accordance with the authority of it's sovereign rights as the aboriginal owners and guardians of their lands and water, reaffirmed in the Medicine Creek Treaty, and their Constitution and Bylaws, as amended and approved by the Tribe and the Assistant Secretary of the Interior; and
WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribal Council firmly believes that the interests of our Tribal Members are the interests of all Native peoples; and
WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribal Council realizes that in order to build a prosperous future for all of Indian Country we must have a voice within the circles of power at all levels of government throughout our great nation; and
WHEREAS, the Puyallup Tribal Council knows that it is only through participation in the election process at all levels of government that our voices along with our votes will be heard loud and clear;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Puyallup Tribal Council supports INDN's List Education Fund and its founded, Kalyn Free's project of undertaking a historical gathering of Democratic candidates for the President of the United States in a forum on Indian issues to take place in Indian Country;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Tribal Council that is authorizes the Chairman (Herman Dillon Sr.), and in his absence, the Vice-Chair (Henry John), to execute this Resolution and other such required documents on behalf of the Tribe.
